Q

How is a balloon pump performed ?

A

A long catheter I steered into the groin through a small cut made under local anaesthetic, catheter is guided through a large blood vessel until it is near the heart. IABP is attached to the catheter, gas pumped into balloon inflating and deflating to match patients heart rhythm, creating better circulation out to the body and blood back to the heart.

Q

How is intracranial pressure monitoring performed?

A

Monitored by fibre optic monitor, Codman monitor, which is placed on the surface of the brain, or via external ventricular drain system, which is a sterile system allowing drainage of CSF fluid

17
Q

How is a 12 lead ECG performed?

A

Use 10 electrodes places on patients chest and limbs.

18
Q

How is cell salvage performed ?

A

Surgeon sucks patients’ blood, collected into a reserve where it is filtered, cleaned and large particles removed. Red blood cells are seperated from othe components of blood, where it is then reinfused into the patient.
