Q

Flowable dam material e.g. Dam Cool/flowable composite uses

A
  • blocking undercuts prior to impressions (wax is the 1st choice)
  • stabilising periodontally loose teeth prior to taking impressions
  • stabilising matrix bands or strips (especially when there is no adjacent tooth)
  • custom supplementary interproximal wedge
  • temporary endo access plug
  • bite reg material

Q

How to make custom supplementary interproximal wedge

A
  1. check internal fit/adaptation of matrix to gingival floor after placing a wedge
  2. before placing V-ring, use flat plastic interproximally and above the wedge to push the matrix to physically close gap
  3. place small amt of flowable comp on wedge, enough to brace against the adjacent tooth while keeping the matrix snug against tooth, LC
  4. test w flat plastic if the gap still appears at gingival line angle
  5. Place V-ring, burnish and restore

Q

Cracked tooth syndrome can be difficult to diagnose and treat. What are some direct visualisation detection techniques?

A
  • indirect illumination/transillumination
  • microscopic examination
  • staining - methylene blue, iodine, caries indicator dyes
  • chewing test (cotton roll or piece of rubberdam)
  • hard bite test (fracfinder, tooth sleuth)
  • exploratory excavation
