Clinical Endodontics Flashcards
what is meant by estimated working length?
estimated length at which instrumentation should be limited
how is the estimated working length obtained?
by measuring pre-operative radiograph to determine distance between coronal reference point (ACJ) and radiographic apex THEN subtracting 1mm
what is meant by corrected working length?
length at which instrumentation and subsequent obturation should be limited.
what is meant by the master apical file?
the largest diameter file taken to working length and therefor represents the final prepared size of the apical partial of the canal at the working length
how long do resin sealers take to set roughly?
8 hours
what are the components of Gutta Percha?
- 20% gutta percha
- 65% zinc oxide
- 10% radiopacifiers
- 5% plasticisers
what is normally used to obturate the canals?
gutta-percha
what are the different types of variants of Gutta-Percha?
- standardised
- non standardised
- size matched
what is the first step of the cold lateral compaction process?
check for “tug back” with master apical cone
- place into a damp canal & it should drop to working length
what is the purpose of EDTA?
removes the smear layer
what is the aetiology of endodontic disease?
BACTERIAL INVASION
what are the main design objectives when performing endo/RCT?
- create a continuously tapering funnel shape
- maintain apical foramen in original position
- keep apical opening as small as possible
why is dental dam mandatory when performing procedures involving the pulp?
- eliminates bacterial contamination
- prevents inhalation of instruments
- retracts & protects soft tissues
- moisture control
what is the special endodontic probe called?
DG16 probe
what is the special endodontic burr known as?
Endo-Z burr
