What is alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency?
A
A genetic disorder where there is a lack of alpha-1 antitrypsin due to a mutation.
This can result in lung and liver disease developing much earlier on, as alpha-1 antitrypsin is responsible for protecting tissues against enzymes of inflammatory cells.
