What is a Tracheotomy?
A surgical produce of creating a hole in the trachea.
What is a tracheostomy?
The hole is then call a tracheostomy and various tubes are often inserted to allow the patient to breathe.
What is Pneumothorax?
When air enters the pleural space, raising the intrapleural pressure so that the pressure difference keeping the lungs against the chest wall is abolished.
What is Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS)?
It is where the alveoli are collapsed in a neonate due to lack of surfactant. 60% of babies born less than 28 weeks. Most babies can be saved by ventilators and by exogenous surfactant.
What is Acute Respiratory Distress (ARD)?
Inflammation causes increased capillary and alveolar permeability.
What do asthma medications do?
Dilate the bronchioles and are generally combined with a glucose corticoid to inhibit inflammation.
What is a Pulse Oximeter?
measures oxyhemoglobin saturation.
What is a symptom of Obstructive sleep apnea?
Morning headache caused by cerebral vasodilation.
