3 methods to calculate amplitude of accommodation

A

The near point of accommodation takes an emmetropic patient and slowly moves a near card toward their face. The point at which they can no longer read the card is recorded in meters and converted to diopters.

The Prince rule is a slide with an attached near card that has units of accommodation built into it.

The method of spheres has the patient fixate on a near object (typically at 40 cm). Minus lenses are added until the image blurs and this is recorded. Plus lenses are then added until the image blurs and this is recorded. The difference between the two recorded values is then the amplitude of accommodation.
