climates Flashcards
what are the three hot climates
equatorial, savanna, hot dessert
equatorial climate
near the equator eg. north brazil
average temper 27°
savanna climate
found 5-15° north and south of the equator
warm weather, wet summers and dry winters
hot dessert climate
night time no cloud cover and temp can drop to 0°
less that 250mm of rainfall per year
what are the two temperate climates
warm and cool temperate oceanic
warm temperate oceanic/ mediterranean
mainly found around mediterranean sea
summers are hot and dry winters mild and moist
cool temperate oceanic
northwest europe and northern est coast of usa
summers mild and winters mild with lots of rain
what are the two cold climates
boreal and tundra
boreal
northern hemisphere
rain less than 400mm per year
tundra
north pole, extreme northern parts of Canada and russia
always cold with summers 4°
what is desertification
desertification is when land is turned into a desert and example is the sahel region
desertification is caused by a combination of climate change and human activity
an impact from climate change on the sahel is the rain is unreliable and sometimes dosent come at all
an impact from human activity is farmers increasing their herd leading to overgrazing and the soil becomes infertile
a result of desertification is that the grassland has been changed it deserts forcing people to migrate beacuse they can survive
what are factors that influence climate
latitude
distance from the sea
prevailing winds
