Climate Test Flashcards
Define:Microclimates
Climate conditions that are different from the conditions around it
Where is the topical zones? (Near wat, long. and lat)
The tropical zone is an area near the equator between about 23.5* N lat and 25.5* Lat
Polar Zones
Those polar zones extend from about 66.5 to 90 N and 66.5 south latitudes
Temperate Zones
Between Tropical Zones and the polar zones are temperate zones
Marine Climate
Much of the west coasts of the North America, South America, and Europe have mild marine climates, with relatively mild winters and cool summers
Continental Climate
Continental climate have more extreme temperatures than marine climates. Winter are cold, While summers are warm or hot
Winward
Rain or snow falls on the windward side of the mountains, side the wind hits
Define: Climate
Year after year conditions of temperature, precipitation, winds and clouds
Leeward
The land on the leeward Side of the mountains downward is the rain shadow little precipitation
Monsoon
Sea and land breezes over a large region that change direction with the seasons are called monsoons
Altitude
How higher above sea level
Distance from large bobies of water (and their affect on climate)
Close to the night and day are similar in temperature
Not near deserts hot day and cold nights
Ocean currents
Current From the poles carry cold water
Currents from tropical zones carry away warm water
Prevailing winds
Depending on the wind large masses of air can travel these masses can carry water vapor which causes rain
Seasonal winds
Year after year around the same time
Wide area
Great Monsoon
What are factors that influence temperature?????
Latitude
Altitude
Distance from large bodies of water
Ocean currents
What are factors that influence precipitation???????!!!
Prevailing winds
Presence of mountains
Seasonal winds
What causes the season?!?!?!
The tilt of the earths axis
