Climate change impacting agriculture Flashcards
How is climate change affecting agricultural productivity?
It is descreasing it. Some areas are becoming so hot, that there it minimal water vapour and precipitation which is killing crops and reducing the land for grazing, reducing livestock farming, especially in Australia.
How is climate change increasing agricultural productivity?
Increased temperatures are increasing humidity in temperate areas, increasing rainfall, thus increasing AP.
How are crop types grown changing due to global warming?
Crops that prefer warmer climates (melons) could be grown further North. Crops that prefer cooler conditions (potatoes) could produce lower yields in their current locations.
What is a danger to farming due to increased temps?
Agricultural pests and diseases may increase in areas e.g. the European Corn Borer (pest of maize) is moving North due to higher temps.
