Q

What data and sources show climate change is happening?

A

Graphs such as the golf club show during the 1900s industrial revolution heat and co2 emission both increased with strong positive correlations (describe data using peam)
Tree rings, and oxygen isotopes show that the world is the warmest it has ever been
Extreme weather such as: glacial retreats, flooding is more lightly, rising sea levels, meting ice caps, the right environment for harmful bugs

Q

Why is our climate changing? what are the causes?

A

The main cause of climate change is burning fossil fuels such as coal oil and gas as they are fossilised carbon that has escaped the atmosphere but now is being put back in with additional carbon from the last billion years. This is called the enhanced green house effect

Q

The main cause are:

A

Deforestation, burning fossil fuels, agriculture (meat), transport by train and car, energy, industry (lots of these go under burning fossil fuels)

Q

Explain how the enhanced carbon cycle effects the greenhouse effect…

A

As more carbon is released back into the atmosphere by burning it and because of a reduction in trees meaning less carbon is converted into oxygen and as more carbon is in the atmosphere more rays from the sun are reflected from the atmosphere back to earth and so the world get hotter cause serious damage to the planet

Q

All the consequences of climate change::::..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:..:

A

One consequence is meting ice caps which has a trail of other issues because when they melt creatures like polar bears are out of a habitat sea levels rise causing inhabited countries get flooded (like the Maldives) and more flooding world wide.

Heat stoke mean deaths across the UK
Coasts easily eroded causing homelessness
Home insurance cost in flood prone areas will rise
More extreme weather
Loss of wild life habitat
Expensive inland flood defences
Food and fruit that need a warm climate will be grown in england with higher crop yields
-invasive species of bug and mosquitos might come to England
Droughts and hose pipe bans
Some crop areas would die because of droughts
More forest fires
Could attract new fish
Could increase tourism for “medertrain weather”
More rain in Winter

Q

What things done by the bed zed community could our society replicate

A

Thick walls mean less need for heating
Low energy appliances
Solar energy on the roof is clean plants outside on balconies
Use bikes and public transport
South facing windows for constant light in the day and heat
Sedum roofs collect rain
Triple glazed windows
52% of resources were collected from 32 miles away

Q

Different ways of making energy have different pros and cons
List them here

A

Solar pros: creates many jobs, require little maintains when set up, no noise
Solar cons: takes up land that could have other uses, production can produce harmful toxins , can damage environment when placing the farms
Wind pros: wind is a clean energy source, can be very effective when placed well, cheap
Wind cons: eye saw, built away from where they are need meaning expensive wires and build to get the energy there, kill birds (4 per turbine per year)
hydro electric power pros: consistent, can be altered depending on consumption, by building dams you are conserving water supplies
HEP cons: ruin landscape and are expensive, hard to find room for the dams and can take up farmland ect , impacts river flow effecting wildlife that relies on the water source
