Climate: Altitude Flashcards
1
Q
What determines how cold land is?
A
How high it is above sea level, this is because the air is thinner at high altitudes and holds less heat.
2
Q
What happens at every 100m increase in altitude?
A
The temperature drops by about 1℃
3
Q
What happens to upland areas?
A
They’re more exposed to the wind than lowland areas, which are sheltered by them. Upland areas also experience more rain because as the air rises, it cools and is unable to hold moisture.
