Ask patient how they are – Quickest way to get a basic ABCD

Find out who is in my team

-Patent airway, able to speak a full sentence, perfusing brain

A – Listen for gugling / snoring / airway isusses such as blood
B – Ask for one of nursing team to attach Sats probe, check RR auscultate chest -> Give oxygen if needed - > ASK fy1 to order xray
C – Ask for blood pressure, Cap refil, assess radial pulse, listen to heart. Consider asking for ECG. Ask fy1 for bloods+gas + cannula

D – Ask for blood sugar, check pupils + reflex and formal GCS

E - Expose abdominal exam boswel sounds , catheter fluid balance

Temperature

Early – 2222, support from seniors, is the patient going to need HDU/ICU
CT / Theatre

Ask for drug chart and patient notes including recent obs

Repeat A-E
Basic airway Jaw thrust Simple adjuncts EG gudel or NPA
Definitive airway plan

Update family discuss with parent team and ICU/HDU
