When interacting with a patient what are the steps you must do
Introduce yourself with your title
Perform hand hygiene
Make sure to use two patient identifiers by asking name and DOB
Explain your reason for being there (the assessment, procedure, etc)
Ask if patient has questions
Always address them by their title or respect there title or name of choice
Before leaving the room ensure patients needs are met (call light is close by, bed comfortable, and let patient know you will be back)
How to prepare the patients room
Ensure to prepare yourself for infection control
Maintain patient privacy by pulling curtains closed
Ensure adequate lighting and all needed equipment is in the room
Keep room at adequate temperature
Plan and be organized (don’t make a patient continually move position)

Contact precautions
Transmission of serious infections via direct contact
C.diff, impetigo
Patient placed in private room, or with patient with the same diagnosis
Must wear gloves at all times
