Main clause
Forms a complete sentence by itself, must contain a verb
> I like eating chocolate bars
Coordinate clause
Stranded coordinate clause
Main clause in a compound or compound-complex sentence
> I LIKE EATING KRISPY KREME DONUTS and YOU ENJOY THEM TOO
When a coordinate clause forms a sentence on its own, you can call it a stranded coordinate clause
> But he’s an idiot
Subordinate clause
Clause that does not make sense on its own, introduced by subordinating conjunctions and must contain a verb
> ALTHOUGH I LIKE CHILDREN, I wouldn’t have one of my own
Concessive subordinate clause
Concede something
> EVEN THOUGH I LOVE HIM, he wont reciprocate
Conditional subordinate clauses
> Provide a condition
> IF YOU GIVE ME A CHOCOLATE BAR, I’ll give you a kiss
Subordinate clauses of reason
> Provide a reason
> BECAUSE HE MISSED THE TRAIN, Zayn was late
Temporal subordinate clauses
> Relate to time
> WHEN YOU LEAVE, shut the door
Relative subordinate clauses
> Add additional information, and begin with a relative pronoun
> This is the woman WHO LIVES IN A BOX
> Jennifer, WHO HASNT SLEPT FOR DAYS, looks rough as hell
