Classyfication Flashcards
What are the three states of Matter?
Solid, Liquid,Gas
How well the matter sticks together depends on three things what are these?
The material, the temperature and the pressure.
What is the properry of the material?
It is a way of saying how it behaves eg volume, shape, density etc.
Name two properties that have a definite volume?
Solids and liquids.
Name a material that has a definite shape?
Solid
What material has a high density
Solid
Which material has a low density?
Gas.
Which material has a medium density?
Liquid.
Which material is easily compressed (squashed)
Gas.
Which material flows easily.
Liquid.
Describe particles in a solid.
Strong forces of attraction between particles. Held in fixed position. The do vibrate. Can’t be easily compressed. Very dense so lots of particles in a small volume.
Describe liquids in particles
Some forces of attraction between them. Particles are close but free to move. They stick together. Liquids don’t keep a definite shape. Liquids do not compress easily. Liquids are quite dense.
Describe gas in particles.
There are very week forces of attraction. Particles are far apart and free to move. Particles move fast. Don’t have a definite shape. Can be compressed easily.
What is gas pressure.
When you increase temperature this makes particles move faster this has two effects. 1, they hit walls harder. 2, they hit more often.
Does reducing the volume increase or decrease pressure.
Increase because when they are squashed up together they hit the walls more often.
