What is work?
work is what people do to earn a living, to satisfy their needs and wants
What is an employed person?
a person who is employed receives salaries or wages for the job they are employed to
What is an Underemployed person?
An Underemployed person is a person who is overqualified for the job
What is an unemployed person?
A person who can work but has no work or job.
Unemployed persons are those who
were laid off for a reason, awaiting results of exams, a full-time student, are temporarily ill
Unemployable persons are those who
are mentally or physically challenged, have poor work ethic, have prison records, lack minimum requirements to work
Unemployment causes what problems?
Poverty, increased crime rate, poor housing conditions, neglect of education, brain drain, family problems, poor nutrition and diseases ,larger scale of emigration or depopulation as people seek for work else where
What is brain drain?
the loss of qualified workers to another country when they migrate
Name 3 types of Unemployment
Seasonal, Normal, Casual, Structural, Technical, Cyclic
Causes of Unemployment
Lack of Jobs , Most Caribbean countries import more than they export ,young persons remain unemployed to wait for high-paying jobs, Economies of caribbean states are not growing fast enough to satisfy the demand for jobs
SelfEmployed
a person who works for themselves (this is an option for some persons who are unemployed
Examples of self-employed jobs
Therapist , Lawyer,Doctor ,Farmer ,Shopkeeper ,Teacher , Driver , Nail Tech ,Hairdresser etc.
Advantages of being self Employed
Independence,Recieve money on own timing and agenda,freely express creativity within workspace.
Secondary Industries
Include the manufacturing and construction of the materials produced by the primary industry
Primary Industries
Make direct use of natural resources to produce goods
Natural Resources can be
Renewable/ Non-Renewable
Tertiary Industries
Provides services of goods but doesn’t produce it eg. hospitality , hotels etc.

examples: forestry ,minery , agriculture ,fishing Activities- Gold ,animal rearing, crop production. types of worker-farmer, miner, lumberjacks.

What is Sustainable Development?
Sustainable development is the ability to balance our natural ecosystem to prevent the deprivation of natural resources for our future generations
Renewable resources can be damaged by
overuse and misuse and by improper practices
Conservation
the careful maintenance and upkeep of a natural resource to prevent it from disappearing and ultimately preserve it for future generations
Land Pollution caused by
the incorrect disposal of household and industrial waste.
