Classification of plants Flashcards
What is vascular tissue
The tissue devoted to the bulk transport of water, nutrients sugars and other substances -> comprised of xylem and phloem
What are Angiosperms and Gymnosperms
Angiosperms are flowering plants, and Gynosperms are non flowering plants
Name the three types of reproduction in plants
Spores (Filicophyta)
Cones (Gymnosperms)
Flowers (Angiosperms)
What are non vascular plants called
Non vascular plants are called bryophytes
What are Bryophytes and give an example
Non vascular plants which are photosynthetic, an example are all mosses
What is a seed
An embryo with a stored food supply
What is a Filicophyte
A vascular plant that disperses spores, e.g. ferns
How are Plants classified
Members of the plant kingdom are eukaryotic, photosynthetic and often terrestrial. They are classified based on whether they have vascular tissue and whether they reproduce by spores, cones or flowers
