Classification of particles Flashcards
How many quarks are there in a baryon?
Three (three quarks or three antiquarks)
How many quarks are there in a meson?
Two (a quark and an antiquark)
What two categories of particle come under hardons?
Mesons and baryons
Electrons and neutrinos are what kind of particles?
Leptons
What 4 things describe hadrons?
-heavy -not fundamental -can be split further - affected by the strong force
Are protons involved in the decay of a baryon?
Yes!
Are protons involved in the decay of a meson?
NO!
What is the only stable baryon?
proton
What two particles are baryons?
protons and neutrons
What are the two mesons?
Pi and K.
Three Pi mesons:
Pi+, Pi-, Pi 0.
What are the types of bosons?
W and Z
What describes leptons?
Light, fundamental, do not decay. If they are charged, they can experience electromagnetism.
What are the four leptons?
Electrons, muons, tauons and neutrinos.
What particles have a strangeness associated?
kaons. K+ has strangeness +1. K- has -1 K0 has +1 Anti K0 has -1
