What is orthodontics ? list 2
Study of growth of the craniofacial complex
The prevention and correction of occlusal anomalies or malocclusion
On facial examination what should you check
Horizontal or transverse
Vertical
Sagital
What does a radiographic assessment assess
Skeletal assessment - relationship between maxilla and mandible
3 types of crossbite
Anterior crossbite
Posterior buccal crossbite
Posterior lingual crossbite
What is an anterior crossbite
Reverse overjet (class III)
What is a posterior buccal crossbite
Lower arch is wider than the upper - buccal cusps of lower occlude lateral to buccal cusps of upper teeth
What is lingual crossbite
Lower buccal teeth occlude lingually to upper buccal teeth
Aetiology of crossbite
Skeletal pattern
Soft tissue pattern
Dental effects
Normal occlusion: Andrews six keys what are they
- correct molar relationship
- correct crown angulation (mesial, distal tilt)
- correct crown inclination (not proclined)
- No rotations
- Tight contacts
- Flat occlusal plane (no overbite)
Upper canine is important for development what should you check if delayed eruption of upper canine
palpate buccal sulcus to feel
If variation is over 6 months take radiograph
