Classification Of Joints Flashcards
Structural classification of joints
Fibrous joints - sutures , gomphosis and syndesmosis
Cartilaginous joints - primary or synchrondrosis
Secondary or symphysis
Synovial joint - Hinge joint Saddle joint Ball and socket joint Ellipsoid Condylar Pivot Plane joints
Classification according to degree of mobility
Synarthroses
Amphiarthroses
Diarthroses
Synarthroses
Immovable joint. Fixed joint. The articular surfaces are covered by tough fibrous tissue. The bones are often dovetailed into each other as seen in the skull
Amphiarthroses
Slightly movable joint . The articulating bones are covered by hyaline cartilage. A pad of fibrocartilage lies between the bone surfaces , and there are fibrous ligaments to hold the bones amd cartilages in place. The cartolage also acts as a shock absorber. Eg intervertebral discs between the vertebrae
