Classification Flashcards
Localised vs Generalised
<30% of teeth
Severity of gingivitis
mild= papilla moderate= papilla and marginal gingiva severe= papilla, marginal gingiva, attached gingiva
modifers of gingivitis
smoking, hyperglycemia, prominent subgingival restoration margins, sex hormones, leukemia, malnutrition, hyposalivation
types of periodontium
intact periodontium
reduced periodontium non-periodontitis patient
successfully treated periodontitis patient
what does it mean when a perio patient is in remission
BOP >10% but no 4mm sites with BOP
How is perio described
extent, stage (severity and complexity), grade (rate), risk factors
Definition of periodontitis
interdental CAL detected on 2 or more adjacent teeth
buccal or oral CAL of 3mm w pocketing more than 3mm on 2 or more teeth
CAL not due to recession, caries, 8s, endo, vertical root fracture
staging
stage 1: RBL<15% within coronal 1/3 of root, PPD 4mm
stage 2: RBL 15-33% within coronal 1/3, PPD 5mm
stage 3: tooth loss, RBL>33%,
stage 4: <10 occluding pairs, masticatory dysfunction
grading
predictor of future disease experience in absence of treatment %bone loss/age (at most affected site) Grade B= 0.5-1, smoking <10cig/day, HBA1c <7% for diabetics hsCRP 1-3mg/L
what makes perio unstable
once theres residual bop on 4mm pockets or theres 5mm PPD
