Classical Physics Flashcards
What’s Newton’s first law of motion?
A body will remain in a state of rest or uniform motion unless acted upon by an external force.
What’s Newton’s second law of motion?
F = m . a
What’s Newton’s third law of motion?What’s Newton’s first law of motion?
For every action there exists an equal and opposite reaction.
What does 1 Newton (N) correspond to?
1 N is the amount of force reauired to accelerate a mass of 1 kg at 1 m/s^2.
What is the definition of momentum?
p = mv
Where p=momentum, m=mass, v=velocity.
It is the tendency of a moving body to remain on its trajectory.
What is velocity?
Speed applied to a vector.
Velocity is basically speed + direction.
What is the link between inertia and momentum?
Momentum is the product of inertia by a velocity.
What’s the formula for Work (W)?
W = F.d
Where:
W = work in joules (J)
F = force in Newtons (N)
d = distance in meters (m)
According to the second law of motion, it can also be written:
W = m.a.d
What does a work of 1 J correspond to?
It is a force of 1N applied over 1m.
What is the definition of PWR?
It is the rate of doing work over time or the application of a given force over a given distance during a certain amount of time.
P = W/t
With P expressed in Watts (W)
