Ternary form, rondo, sonata form, regular phrases, focus on balance, symphony, symmetrical forms, solo concerto, minuet and trio
What is ternary form?
3-part piece, ABA
What is rondo form?
ABACA, ABACABA, ABACBA, ABACAB
What is sonata form?
Consists of 3 sections (exposition, development, and recapitulation) where 2 themes/subjects are explored according to set key relationships. The subjects are normally very different from one another
What is a concerto?
A musical composition for a solo instrument or instruments accompanied by an orchestra, especially a big one.
What is minuet and trio?
Explores contrast between two subjects, includes a minuet which is written in triple time, usually with an emphasis on the first beat
Classical melody
Short regular phrases, question and answer-style phrases, more predictable melody lines, one main melody clearly heard. EVENLY BALANCED PHRASES.
Classical intstrumentation
Classical orchestra (strings plus double wind, horns and timpani), Pianoforte (not harpsichord), string quartet
Classical texture
Homophonic
Classical harmony
Primary chords, diatonic, frequent cadences, infrequent dissonance, modulation to related keys
