Classical And Operant Conditioning Keywords Flashcards
Classical conditioning
Learning through association
Unconditioned stimulus
Produces a natural response or reaction that doesn’t require learning or conditioning
Unconditioned response
A reaction to an unconditioned stimulus (not learnt)
Neutral stimulus
A stimulus that produces no reaction
Conditioned stimulus
A stimulus that has been learnt
used to be neutral but now produces a (conditioned) response because it has built an association
Conditioned response
A response that has been learnt (response to the conditioned stimulus)
Operant conditioning
Explains attachments/behaviour through reinforcement and punishment
Primary reinforcement
The actual reward
Directly satisfies your primary needs (natural reward)
Eg. Food and water satisfying thirst and hunger
Secondary reinforcement
Person or thing which enables you to fulfil your primary reinforcement needs eg. Money or stickers
Negative reinforcement
Carry out a behaviour to avoid punishment or negative consequences
The learning theory of attachment
All behaviour is leaned rather than inborn
Learn to build an attachment based on food
Cupboard Love Theory
Suggests that attachment is based on providing food alone
