Classes Of Catalysis Flashcards
Strain
(Stabilize bonds in high energy 3D structure)
Substrate is in a different shape that is less favorable
different from what it is normally
Cage Effect
(Bind two substrates in the correct orientation for reaction, increasing their local concentration)
Two substrates in the active site at the same time
Acid-Base
(Give and take protons from/to substrate using amino acids or an active site water)
Look for arrows that show the bonds between the hydrogen and amino acids/substrates are being broken/formed
Covalent
(Substrate(s) are going to be covalently bonded to the enzyme at some point in the reaction)
There should be a solid line between one of the amino acids that make the active site
Metal Ion
(Metals are used to promote proper orientation of bound substrates and can aid in redox reactions)
There is a metal ion in the active site
