Class Activity 3 Flashcards

1
Q
  1. The the importance of the following concepts from the green chemistry point of view
  2. 1 Use of Renewable feed stock.
    1. Design chemicals and products to degrade after use
    1. Avoid chemical derivatives
    1. Increase energy efficiency
A
  1. 1: This is important because non-renewable feedstock usually come from fossil fuels which are depletable, cause waste and are harmful to the environment
    1. This will help prevent the accumulation of waste in the environment.
    1. This is a waste prevention measure since derivatives require additional reagents and cause waste.
    1. This will help minimize energy consumption.

Q
  1. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of solar energy source
A

Advantages:

  • Sustainable and renewable
  • Can produce electricity and heat water
  • Solar panels require little maintenance
  • Solar panels are silent producers of electricity

Disadvantages:

  • Can only be created at night
  • Power is reduced in cloudy weather
  • Max output only when the panel is facing the sun
  • Solar cells can only convert 20% of the suns rays into energy
