Class 8 supplies include all medical and health stores and equipment
What is the DMTPs?
Standing orders that provide legal framework for us to administer medicine in the absence of a medical practitioner

Why does MEDSAFE carry out an audit?
To make sure whether or not the NZDF are complying with the rules of class 8 medical supplies

What are 3 processes that help us to maintain our equipment?
- inspection
- calibration
- validation
How should class 8 material be disposed?
- Under the supervision of a registered health professional or NZDF medic
- via approved means and documented in pharmaceutical destruction register (MD1277)
- quarantine items of disposal (isolate)
Guidelines for areas of storage of class 8
- sufficient space for storage
- kept clean free from dirt/ debris
- have surfaces that are smooth and washable
- well lit and ventilated
Where are controlled drugs to be stored?
CDs to be stored in an approved space
How often are mandatory stock takes done?
Every 6 months
What is inspection that helps us to maintain our equipment?
Inspection, means checking equipment to ensure there are no visible signs of damage and that it is functioning to the right standard
What is calibration that helps us to maintain our equipment?
Calibration means checking/adjusting the accuracy of an equipment’s measurements
What is validation that helps us maintain our equipment?
Validation is when equipment performance is measured and confirmed
