Becker says that labelling the lower class because of their dirty appearance or use of restricted language effects them heavily as they start to believe they’re troublesome. They then legitimise the label and prove the teachers right.

Marilyn Howard says that because of the lower class students’ health and living conditions, it is extremely difficult for them to thrive in education and have a great attendance. Their homes may be overcrowded and the state of the house may be unhealthy. Therefore - miss schooling.

Bourdieu - it includes knowledge, attitudes, language and tastes.
