Class # 5 Cognitive Codes Flashcards
verbalization is relatively clear and not bizarre
“Looks like those talky flowers at Disneyland”
Deviant Verbalization 1 (DV1): idiosyncratic, quaint, immature, unsophisticated, etc.
incomprehensible or very difficult to understand word misuse that interferes with communication.
“A person tipping his card in a game of hands”
“inward type photograph of a flower’s reproductive cells”
Deviant Verbalization 2 (DV2): this level should be obviously odd and difficult to understand.
Loose associations, task distortions, rambling circumstantial responses that drift off task
illogical or irrelevant replies to the question: What might this be?”
Deviant response (DR)
- It looks like a sumatran tiger. I like those tigers. Don’t you love them? Tigers are beautiful.
- …Did you see that movie? Do you remember the part where….

DR1
Markedly confusing communications or communication failures that are clearly off task (e.g., statements that make you go, “WTF?”). Usually a reactive response
DR2
- It’s a little baby coming out of a mother, but she didn’t really have a little baby even though she is a mother
- Something hiding. If you tell the truth, you won’t get in trouble. But if you’re sneaky like these people, you’ll realize it.
These are examples of what?
DR2
confusing or overly concrete reasoning that does TWO things:
1. used to JUSTIFY or elaborate on a response
2. offered spontaneously and not prompted by the examiner
PEC - Peculiar logic
- “It’s coming apart at the seam because it is schizophrenic”
- “It’s on top so it must be a crown”
These are examples of what?
PEC
Merging blot details into an implausible single object
