intellectual abilities: processes form reflexives instinctual action at birth to the beginning of symbolic thought. understanding of the world constructed by coordination sensory experiences with physical actions
Piagets: 2- 7 years preoperational
child begins to represent the world with words and images which reflect increased symbolic thinking and go beyond the connection of sensory information and physical action
Piagets: 7-11 years concrete operations
child can reason logically about concrete events and classify objets into different sets
piagets: 11-15 years formal operation
the adolescent reasons in more abstract and logical ways, thought is more idealistic
