What is Alternating Hot Towels (hot compress)?
Application of series of hot moist towels to specific area. Towels mold easily to treatment area
How is Alternating Hot Towels (hot compress) used?
• Towels are soaked in bucket of hot water
• Wring out towel & apply to area of body to be treated.
• When towel begins to cool, place dry towel over application & apply fresh hot towel on top. Turn all three towels over & remove cooled towel that is
now on top.
• Repeat for 10 – 20 minutes.
What is Hot foot bath/how is it used?
Feet & lower legs are soaked in bucket container of warm or hot water for 10 – 20 minutes. Cold compress to neck & blanket is recommended.
Hot foot bath can be used to treat chronic conditions in the lower legs/ankles & feet or for it’s
powerful reflex effects such as?
• Can increase systemic circulation, increases core
temperature
• Reflexly effects circulation to pelvic region, upper
respiratory passages, throat & head.
• Used to warm up chilled patient, can help to abort cold, alleviate congestive headaches, sinus problems, lung & chest congestion, pelvic congestion (menstrual cramping), chronic insomnia
What is Hot arm bath/how is it used?
• Hands & forearms are soaked in a bucket/container of warm or hot water for 10–20 minutes.
• Increases local circulation, decreases muscle resting tension, fascial restrictions. Used for chronic arthritis, tight forearms (from massage therapy, lifting, manual work etc).
• Reflex effects occur in brain/nasal mucosa
