Class 1 Flashcards
Nodes
Devices that communicate on a network and have a unique address assigned to them
Network
Collection of nodes that are linked together by some transmission media or link for the purposes of sharing services, devices, or data
Router
Allows the communication between different networks
Modem
Translates analog signals into digital signals that computers can understand
Simplex data transfer
Data flows one way
half-duplex data transfer
Data can flow both ways but only one direction at a time
Full-duplex data transfer
Data can freely flow both ways at the same time
Switch
Allows nodes to connect to each other through plugging into the switch
Client server network
Central Server responsible for processing and clients makes request to it
Peer to Peer network
All nodes have equal status so that if one goes down, still be fine
What does SAN stand for?
Storage Area Network
What does PAN stand for?
Personal Area Network
What does EPN stand for?
Enterprise Private Network
Packet switching
Data is broken down into pieces so that the data can be transmitted through any route available at the time
Circuit switching
Only one node can transmit data to an endpoint and others must wait until that connection is finished before they can take that route.
