Claims, Grounds, And Warrants Flashcards
What is a ground?
Reasons or evidence (Use text evidence)(Example: The gravity pulls the paper airplane to the ground)
What is a claim?
Your point, statement that something is so. (Example: A paper airplane can’t fly far)
What is a warrant?
The link of reasoning that connects the grounds/reason to the claim. (Why does your evidence mean your claim is true?)(Example: Gravity has a stronger force then a paper airplane)
What does backing mean?
Support to backup the warrant (Example: Gravity has an effect on things that have a bigger mass)
What does qualification mean?
The surety of the writer that they are right (Example: If you test it out three times, you will find out through the results)
What does rebuttal mean?
Exception to the claim (Example: If you use a thicker piece of material to make the airplane, it will fly farther because it is a little stronger then the regular piece of paper airplane)
