CKD Epidemiology Flashcards
Why might you be mislead by using blood creatinine levels only to estimate GFR?
Other factors need to be taken into account:
Age
Muscle mass (gender can be used)
Black or White ethnicity
GPs recently started using formulas to predict kidney function. What have been some of the outcomes of this?
This has improved the recognition of true cases or at least assigning patients to the correct stage. This means that there has been a lower number of referrals with a benign reduction in GFR but has also meant that there has been a reduction in the number of people presenting at a later stage in their disease progression.. They are not useful for acute renal failure situations.
Rank these by their survival likelihood from worst to best.
Glomerulonephritis, Interstitial nephritis, Polycystic kidney disease, Hypertensive nephrosclerosis
Polycystic kidney disease
Glomerulonephritis
Hypertensive nephrosclerosis
Interstitial nephritis
On microscopic examination or imaging what is the key feature you would see in the case of IgA nephropathy
Focal antibody deposits
