PATENT PRINT
Can be seen with the naked eye, made by a hand that had blood, grease, oil, or any other sticky substance on it.
PLASTIC PRINT
Can be seen with naked eye, formed when an impression is made in a soft substance such as putty, glue, dust, or butter.
LATENT PRINT
Most common, can not be seen without applying powder or chemicals, substances adhere to the amino acids or oils in the fingerprint and make it visible.

Burification, Ridge ending, Short ridge, Ridge dot, Spur, Lake, Crossover, Core
BURIFICATION
Also known as a fork, ridge splits into two friction ridges.
RIDGE ENDING
Ridges that stop abruptly.
SHORT RIDGE
Begin and end abruptly, traveling a short distance.
RIDGE DOT
Isolated ridge that’s length is approximately its width (A dot).
SPUR
Looks like a tree, and has a branch off of a longer ridge.
LAKE
(Enclosure) A single ridge splits to make a hole in the center then forming back together.
CROSSOVER
A short ridge that runs between two parallel ridges
CORE
Center of finger (Arch, Loop, Whorl)
