Sherman’s March to the Sea
Goal was for the Union to take Atlanta, Georgia. Sherman wanted to use “total war”
Sherman’s armies destroyed civilian towns and resources to discourage South from fighting and punishment
Atlanta was last major South city, and allows Lincoln to win re-election
