The document that gave freedom to slaves in the states that were fighting against the union. (Slavery was still legal In the border states.)

The first shots of the civil war were fired there.
Fugitive slave act
A law that prohibited anyone from helping escaped slaves, including those in northern states. Any person who aided a runaway slave could be arrested or fined. When this became law, many escaped slaves made their way farther to Canada.
Gettysburg
Fought over three days, it was the northern most battle of the war. The union was victorious and the battle was considered a turning point of the war.
Gettysburg address
Lincolns most famous speech, and one of the most famous speeches in American history.
General Ulysses s. Grant
The commander of the Union forces during the last part of the war.
General Robert e lee
The commander of the confederate army durning the civil war
Abraham Lincoln
The president of the United States during the Civil war. He was assassinated five days after the war ended.
Massachusetts 54th regiment
The first black regiment allowed to fight in the civil war. They proved that African American soldiers could fight as bravely as white soldiers could.
Reconstruction
The period of rebuilding the nation after the civil war
