Secession

A

The South seceded from the union which back then in 1861 it was illegal to secede. They wanted to play by their own rules.

Expansion of slavery

A

They wanted to expand slavery into new territories.
Missouri compromise: it was passed in 1920 and it stated that Missouri was a slave state and Maine was a free state.

Compromise of 1850: California was a free state. Ended slave tradition in Washington d.c and making it easier for southerners to recover fugitive slaves.

Fugitive slave law: said that the slave found in the north was to be sent back to the south and sold into slavery.

Kansas and Nebraska act: Allowed each new territory to vote for slavery. Both proslavery and antis.avery settlers flooded into kansas within weeks after douglas bill became law. Each side was determined to hold the majority in the territory when it came for time to vote.thousand of missurians entered kansa in march 1855 to illegaly vote in the election to slect territorial legislature.

A

The south never wanted Lincoln to be president.the north believed that our good should not be traded with England. The south believed they survived off the back of the slaves and traded with England.
