What is reconstruction?
The action of rebuilding former confederate states and readmitting them into the union.
What is amnesty?
Giving no punishment for the crimes committed
What is Lincoln’s 10% plan?
The plan is when 10% of a former confederate state takes an oath to be loyal, the state would get a new government and then they could send up new representatives.
Why were the Radical Republicans considered “radical”?
The radical republicans wanted a more extreme approach to reconstruction. They wanted to punish the former confederate states and they also believed that Lincoln was being too easy on them.
What are Freedmen
These were African American men who were freed out of slavery.
What did the Freedmen Bureau do?
- Got the men farming land and work
- They set up schools in the South
- They provided clothes, food and healthcare to poor southeners
Who was John Wilkes Booth?
He was President Lincoln’s assasinator
Who was Andrew Johnson?
He was the president after Lincoln was killed.
