A civil war occurs when different groups from within the same country try to take control away from each other.
Can you give an example of a civil war?
An example in 2020 is in the country of Syria where the Assad Government, Islamic State, rebels, and Kurdish forces are all trying to take control of territory.
When did the American Civil War take place?
The American Civil War was fought between 1861 and 1865.
Who were the two sides in the American Civil War?
The two sides were the Southern (or Confederate) Army and the Northern (or Union) Army.
