Explain Turner’s Rebellion

A

(1831) Nat Turner. Most successful and severe in history. Felt he had a “vision from god” to rebel. He plus five others killed owners of the plantation plus 60 other whites. More than 160 slaves were put to death. Turner was put on trial before he was hung to find out how he did it.

A

(1850) California wanted to come in as a free state. The compromise states that
• California enters the union as a free state
• Utah and New Mexico territories would decide for themselves
•Washington DC would remain slave but abolish the slave trade there
• fugitive slave act was passed
