A
- Ended Legal segregation in public schools
- Taken to Supreme court.
- Showed that schools were separated, but not “equal”

A
- Long time president of Morehouse College. (27 years)
- Mentor/Teacher to many Civil Rights leaders.
- Served on the Atlanta Board of Education for 18 years.

A
- Very well known Civil Rights leader born in Atlanta
- Led peaceful protests and Speeches across the south.
- Famous for his “I Have A Dream” Speech and the “March on Washington”

A
- Facilities would no longer separate Blacks and Whites.
- Started with schools in Brown v. Board of Education in 1954.
- Was one of the Main goals of the Civil Rights movement.

Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) 1960
A
- A Civil Rights group made to give blacks more freedom and voice.
- Was led by Dr. King to peaceful protests and sit-ins.
- Many famous Civil Rights leaders came from this group.

Sibley Commission 1955
A
- A plan made by the GA general Assembly to cut off state funds to any system that integrated its schools.
- Asked Citizens to chose to shutdown schools or desegregate them.
- The Governor decided to desegregate many schools and public facilities.

Hamilton Holmes & Charlayne Hunter 1961
A
- First African-Americans to enter the “University of Georgia”
- Hamilton Holmes simply wanted to become a doctor. Charlayne Hunter simply wanted to become a journalist, but both decided they needed a higher form of education to do so.
- Became Head of Grady Hospital of Atlanta.

Albany Movement 1961-1962
A
- First Mass movement in the Civil Rights Era to desegregate and entire area.
- Over 1,000 African-Americans were arrested.
- Famous leaders like Dr. King spoke there, and SNCC joined in.

March on Washington 1963
A
- Over 200,000 came to the march and stood in front of the Lincoln Memorial.
- Site of the “I Have a Dream” Speech.
- President John F. Kennedy endorsed this March.

Civil Rights Act 1964 (1968?) (Unsure which act)
A
- Outlawed discrimination based on Race, Gender, Color, Religion, etc.
- Signed by Lyndon B. Johnson and Passed in Senate 73-27.
- A major win for the Civil Rights movement as this ended segregation within the communities.

Georgia’s 1956 State Flag 1956
A
- Added the confederate battle flag in its new change.
- Wanted to show resistance to the new change from segregation.
- No Public hearing was shown before the adding of the flag, no public opinion was input.

Maynard Jackson 1973
A
- First Black mayor of Atlanta or of any major city in the south.
- Helped host the Olympics in GA, and helped minorities have business in the government.
- Helped make GA what it is today and promoted the World’s busiest Airport.

Lester Maddox 1966
A
- Was for Segregation and did not want to desegregate his restaurant and would rather shut it down.
- Was the governor of GA for a while and surprised a large amount of political observers
- Appointed more African Americans to government positions than all previous Georgia governors combined.

Andrew Young 1961
A
- A famous Civil Rights leader alongside Dr. King.
- Was the first African-American to be elected to congress in GA, since Reconstruction.
- He later became an Ambassador for the United Nations.
