the quality of being fair and impartial.

Grandfather clause
It meant that those who had enjoyed the right to vote prior to 1867, or their lineal descendants, would be exempt from educational, property, or tax requirements for voting. As a result, even if they met all the requirements, they were not allowed to vote.
Jim Crow laws
Racial segregation laws enacted between 1876 and 1965 at the state and local level. They mandated de jure racial segregation in all public facilities in the Southern states These laws began after the Union military left the South, ending Reconstruction.
Poll taxes
A tax to vote, collected at the polls.
