An illegitimate child born of a Filipino mother and Chinese father in 1942 did not need to elect Philippine citizenship in order to be considered a natural born Filipino citizen. The requirements of electing PH citizenship only applies to legitimate children.

Consider this: A was born to a Filipino father and an American mother. Her mother requested confirmation of A’s citizenship from the US Consular Service.
Should A be considered a dual citizen by naturalization?
Will reacquisition of PH citizenship under RA 9225 benefit a foreigner spouse, and children?
As to the spouse, no. RA 9225 does not provide that the wife of a PH citizen who reacquired his citizenship will also become a PH citizen.
As to children, only those who are unmarried and below 18 years old may be considered to have acquired PH citizenship automatically.
