Cisco NE Module 2 - Online Connections Flashcards
Smartphones make connections in a variety of ways like via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS. They can also use NFC.
What does NFC stand for and what is it used for?
Near Field Communication
It is a wireless communication technology that enables data to be exchanged by devices that are in very close proximity to each other, usually less than a few centimetres. For example, NFC can be used to connect a smartphone and a payment system. NFC uses electromagnetic fields to transmit data.
LAN Components - Q1
Hosts send and receive user traffic. A host is a generic name for most e___-u______ devices.
end-user devices
Examples of hosts are personal computers and network attached printers.
LAN Components - Q2
Do hosts have IP addresses?
Yes
LAN Components - Q3
Do shared peripheral devices like locally attached printers communicate directly on the network?
No
Peripherals rely on their connected host to perform all network operations.
LAN Components - Q4
True or False?
Networking devices connect other devices, mainly hosts.
True
These devices move and control network traffic. Examples of network devices include hubs, switches, and routers.
To physically connect to a network, an end-user device must have a __________________.
NIC card
= a network interface card (NIC). The NIC is a piece of hardware that enables the device to connect to the network medium, either wired or wireless. It may be integrated into the device motherboard or may be a separately installed card.
An end-user device requires an ___________________ address, as well as other information, to identify it to the other devices in the network.
(IP) Internet Protocol address
How many parts are there to an IP address, and what are they?
Hint:
1) _I_________ This identifies the host on the network.
2) _s______m____ This is used to identify the network on which the host is connected.
3) _d______g_____ This identifies the networking device that the host uses to access the internet or another remote network.
3
1) IP Address
2) Subnet Mask
3) Default Gateway
What information does the command ‘ipconfig’ when typed into command prompt give you?
IP address
subnet mask
default gateway.
