What is circumcision?
When a baby boy is eight days old, they have to get their foreskin of their penis removed.
Why do baby boys get circumcised?
They are Jews, or for medical reasons.

It makes the baby boys Jewish, and for them to have a special connection with god.

The mohel carries out the circumcision. And names the baby.
Who is the Sandek?
The man who is given the honour of holding the baby boy in his lap during the circumcision.
What does Brit Milah mean?
Brit Milah mean Covenant of cutting.
Why is there an empty chair during the ceremony?
It is Elijah’s chair, it reminds the Jews of prophet Elijah, and he is supposed to present during every circumcision.
What is a physical sign of the covenant?
A rite of passage, like circumcision, marriage, death…
What does the father do in the ceremony?
The benediction. Recites a blessing saying that he is taking on the responsibility of bringing his son into the covenant.
What does the kvatter do?
Person who carries the baby from the mother to the father, who in turn carries him to the mohel.
What is a covenant?
A covenant is a formal prom is between two or more people.
What do the droplets of wine symbolise?
Joy

Land, descendants and protection
What did Abraham promise god?
Faithful and loyalty.
