Circulatory Test Flashcards
Aorta
All blood is delivered from the heart passes through this artery Blood leaves from the left ventricle into this artery where it is then pushed throughout the body. (Largest Artery)
Brachicephalic Trunk
This is the first artery to arise from the aorta. It carries blood to the right arm and the right side of the head and neck.
Left Common Carotid Artery
This is the second artery to arise from the aorta. its carries blood to the left side of the head and neck.
Subclavian Artery
This is the last to arise from the aorta. It carries blood to the left arm.
Renal Artery
This artery branches off the descending aorta and supplies blood to the kidneys.
Hepatic Artery
This artery branches off the descending aorta and supplies blood to the liver, duodenum, pylorus, and pancreas.
Inferior Vena Cava
Largest Vein in the body. It collects blood from veins serving the tissues inferior to the heart and returns this blood to the right atrium of the heart.
Superior Vena Cava
Veins from all parts of the body (except the lungs back to the heart) converge to lead to the right atrium of the heart.
Right Atrium
Deoxygenated blood enters the heart through the superior and inferior vena cava. It pushes from top to bottom to get blood into the right ventricle.
Tricuspid AV Valve
This Valve guards the right atrium and ventricle.
Right Ventricle
Deoxygenated blood is pumped into here from the right atrium. It pushed the bottom to top into the lungs where gas exchange occurs.
Pulmonary Semilunar Valve
This valve guards the right ventricle and the pulmonary trunk.
Pulmonary Artery
Brings blood to the lungs to be oxygenated and pushed back to the heart.
Pulmonary Veins
Brings oxygenated blood back to the heart from the lungs.
Left Atrium
It receives blood from the lungs via the pulmonary veins and pumps from top to the bottom into the left ventricle.
Bicuspid AV/Mitral Valve
This valve is found between the left atrium and the left ventricle.
Left Ventricle
Has the thickest walls to pump blood through the body. It pushes from the bottom to top and pumps blood into the aorta.
Aortic Semilunar Valve
It’s between the left ventricle and the aorta. It opens to allow blood to leave the left ventricle as it contracts.
