Q

What is the hearts purpose?

A

It’s purpose is to pump blood around the body - it supplies tissues with nutrients and oxygen, while at the same time, removing waste product.

Q

What is a ventricle?

A

A ventricle is two out of four of the hearts chambers.
The ventricle has thicker more muscular walls than the ATRIA, as they are required to push out blood with sufficient pressure, to pass through the whole body.

Q

What is pulmonary circulation?

A

Blood flow from the right ventricle to the left atrium.
Bloody supply from right ventricle to left atrium via lungs. Blood flow to lungs passes through pulmonary artery returning to the heart via pulmonary vein.

Q

What is systemic circulation?

A

The flow of blood from the left ventricle to the right atrium via tissues of the body.
Carries blood from left ventricle to the tissues via a large artery called aorta. Blood returns to the right atrium via large vein called the vena cava. To accommodate bloody flow from both upper and lower body, the be a cava is comprised of both superior and inferior portions.

Q

How many category of blood vessel are there and what are they called?

•arteries
•veins
•capillaries

11
Q

What do arteries do?

A
They:
•carry blood under high pressure
•have thicker walls
•more elastic
•more smooth muscle

They do not need return valves, pressure alone is enough.

There function is the carry blood away from heart to lung and tissues,

Q

What do veins do?

A
They:
•carry blood under low pressure
•have thinner walls
•less elastic
•less smooth muscle
•non-return valves

Veins carry bloody on the return journey back to the heart

Small vessels called venues carry blood from the tissues into the veins

13
Q

What do capillaries do?

A
  • smaller and most numerous blood vessels
  • thinner walls allows efficient exchange of materials.

Capillaries are found in almost every tissue of the body

Capillaries lie between artery and veins where the exchange of oxygen, nutrients and waste product takes place.

16
Q

What is diastolic blood pressure?

A

Pressure of blood when heart is relaxed

17
Q

What are the standard units of measure?

Bloody pressure

A

Millimetres of Mercury.

18
Q

What can blood pressure measurement be used for?

A

It can be used to determine and individuals level of risk of experiencing certain disease conditions, eg, cardiovascular disease (CHD or stroke.

19
Q

What is the average resting bloody pressure?

A

120/80mmhg

Millimetres of Mercury

20
Q

What is the unhealthy blood pressure that’ll need to seek medical attention before activity?

A

144/94 should be encourage to see their doctors prior to beginning physical programmes.

21
Q

What is the circulatory system?

A

System that circulates blood and lymph through the body.

22
Q

What is the pulmonary vein?

A

Large blood vessel that receive oxygenated blood from the lungs and drain into the left atrium (atria) of the heart.

23
Q

What is the aorta?

A

Main artery of the body. Supply oxygenated blood to the circulatory system.

24
Q

What’s the difference between oxygenated blood and deoxygenated blood?

A

Oxygenated blood is: blood full of oxygen from the lungs.

Deoxygenated blood: blood had had most of it oxygen removed and is returning to the lungs ready to be reoxygenated

25
Q

What are the two part of the vena cava?

A

Superior Vena cava is the large vein when returns blood to the heart from the head, neck and both upper limbs.

Inferior vena cava returns blood to the heart from the lower part of the body.
