Circulatory system Flashcards
What is a circulatory system
is a combination of arteries and veins that permits blood to circulate and transport nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones and blood cells around the body
Respiratory system
takes the oxygen that you breathe ,in through the lungs and then transported it around the body in the blood and carbon dioxide.
Heart valves
valves that control the flow of blood to and from the heart. These valve include :atrioventricular valves, the aortic valve, and the pulmonary valve—called also cardiac valve.
Septum
a dividing wall between two chambers. Between the heart.
Haemoglobin
the part of the red blood cell that carries oxygen in the blood
What is the function of the arteries
Carries oxygenated blood away from the heart and around the body.
What is the function of the veins
They are responsible for returning deoxygenated blood back to the heart ,then to the lung to be deoxgenated
What is the function of the capillaries?
They are the smallest of all blood vessels and form the connection between the arteries and vein . Where the oxygen comes out of the red blood cells
What is the difference between systemic circulation and pulmonary circulation
Pulmonary circulation moves blood between the heart and the lungs whereas the Systemic circulation moves blood between the heart and the rest of the body
What are the names of the four chambers of the heart?
tricuspid valve, pulmonary valve, pulmonary artery, mitral valve, aortic valve
What are the 3 parts of the circulatory system
The heart, blood vessels, lungs
What are the 3 functions of the circulatory system?
To carry oxygenated blood through out the body.
What are the 3 types of blood vessels?
Arteries, capillaries, veins
What is the function of red blood cells
the haemoglobin is the protein in the red blood cells that carries the oxygen
What is the function of hire blood cells
protect the body against infectious disease
