The cardiovascular and the lymphatic system
What is the cardiovascular system?
Made up of the arterial system, the heart, and the venous system
What are the functions of the circulatory system?
-transport fluid
-distribute gases
-chemical signalling
-mediate inflammation and defence response
What is the order of pulmonary circulation?
Right side of the heart - lungs - left side of the heart
What is the order of systemic circulation?
Left side of the heart - capillary beds of organs and tissues- right side of the heart
What are the layers of the heart?
Epicardium
Myocardium
Endocardium
What is the epicardium?
External layer of the heart; visceral serous pericardium
What is the myocardium?
Middle layer of the heart; cardiac muscle layer
What is the endocardium?
Internal layer of the heart; continuous with endothelium of blood vessels connecting with the heart
What are the cardiac chambers?
Right atrium
Right ventricle
Left atrium
Left ventricle
What are the cardiac valves?
2 atrioventricular valves; tricuspid and mitral
2 semilunar valves; pulmonary and aortic
